Bobby Long

Something scenic

So you're a London lad? You go to a local University don't you?
- Well, I moved here a few years ago. Im originally from the West Country in Wiltshire. I go to London Metropolitan University and Im just finishing it all off.

Studying Music?
- Im doing a sound media based Degree. It's basically sound for film and we work on Foley and sound collages.

When you did you realise you were going to be a songwriter?
- I dont know really. I never really questioned it all, I know I'm filled with a passion for it and it just kinda took over. I think it chooses you more and before you know it, you base everything around it.

You wrote a couple of tracks for that box office smash "Twilight" didn't you? We have session in London Songwriter Week entitled "Writing for Film and Television", is this something you aim to specialise in, or something that just came your way, if so how?
- Having a song in a film is a good feeling because its a mixture of two worlds coming together, but it was something that came out of nowhere. I hadnt really thought about it because I dont know if you can. Youre just trying to write songs to play. It's a good feeling though and I would definitely be up for it in the future.

I hear you are touring Stateside? What is the difference between gigs there and over here?
- Well I just got back from NY C, Los Angeles and Nashville and the main difference is the Americans are not scared of approaching you or singing along. It was a good experience and Im looking forward to going over again in July for a few months on a longer tour.

So what is next for Bobby Long then?
- Well, firstly the tour and then to keep writing and hopefully get in a studio to do my album around Christmas time. I need to do a lot of planning, but hopefully I'll find the right producer to work with.

Name a song that you like to sit and listen to and another one you like to get up and move to and why?
- To sit and listen to probably Leonard Cohen The Partisan, it always takes me some place that I like. To move to something by Ray Charles or Otis Redding -I cant choose!
