This seminar will be an open discussion, followed by a Q & A session from the audience. You want to know how to get into music composition for film and television? Well, this panel has a wealth of knowledge and will endeavour to give you the advice that you need!

Topics of discussion may include: how technology has affected TV music, rights issues, how to get into the business, commissions and pitching, budgets, plagiarism, music libraries, soundalikes, alternative sources of income, the impact on the industry of media composition courses and whether it is possible to make a real living as a media composer these days!

David Lowe

David has written the music for all BBC News output, The One Show, Panorama, Countryfile, Police Camera Action, Grand Designs, EastEnders (original music by Professional BASCA member Simon May), The Ivor Novello Awards, David Attenborough, Jeremy Clarkson, British Airways and many more. He has just finished the theme for BBC drama Missing, starring Pauline Quirke. He has had three albums commercially released, under the names Dreamcatcher and Touch and Go, the latter of which gave him a top 3 hit in the UK and Europe in 1998/99 with his single Would You? His music has been used extensively in films, television and commercials. David sits on the Media Executive Committee at BASCA.

Marc Sylvan

Marc Sylvan is a successful media composer and award-winning sound designer, whose television work can regularly be heard across the major UK channels as well as on video games, films, station idents and commercials around the world. Recent credits include the prime-time Saturday night BBC1 shows, The Kids Are All Right, National Lottery: Come & Have a Go and the hit ITV1 show Golden Balls. He has scored adverts for Games such as SEGA Rally Revo and Saleen S7 Supercar and provided sound design for SEGA's triple-A video game release The Club (PS3/XBOX 360). Marc sits on the Media Executive Committee at BASCA.

Simon Lambros

Simon is a Film and TV composer and conductor who has provided music for a wide range of genres, including the composer, conductor, sound editor/designer and supervising dubbing mixer for animation Blindscape; this film received both BAFTA and OSCAR nominations. He won a Golden Reel Award for best soundtrack to animation Jester. He wrote (and conducted) the music for the highly successful BBC/Tiger Aspect series of films Heroes and Villains. He wrote the music to the BBC Wales comedy film Everycloud starring Liz Frazer, the highly successful BBC documentary series the Belief File. His innovative score for The Late Twentieth combining orchestral elements with some of the latest cutting edge electronic techniques and sounds won high acclaim. The Last Horror Movie (Best British Feature Film, Raindance Festival) shows his ability to write music covering many different styles, from Country & Western to Garage as well as big, Hollywood-style music, such as his music for Puritan (Starring David Soul and Nick Moran. Simon has worked as an Orchestrator, Music Consultant and Music Technology Consultant, was the senior music tutor at the National Film and Television School for four years as well as Course Director for PG Studies at the London College of Music and Media / Thames Valley University. Simon sits on the Media Executive Committee at BASCA.
