Lenny Kravitz - The Rock Writer
By Lawrence Lartey
Many say that the lyrics of It Aint Over Til Its Over were some of
the most heart rendering of the 90s. In a genre normally more concerned
with debauchery and male dominated anecdotes of well a rockers life,
Lenny Kravitz did something unusual and went against the norm
So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
Baby it ain't over 'til it's over
So many years we've tried
And kept our love alive
Cuz baby it ain't over 'till it's over
Not only would these lyrics resonate with millions around the world, the
song would catapult Lenny into the mainstream arena.
Lenny Kravitz, transcends not just one genre of music, but music in
itself. He writes, produces, arranges and plays most of the instruments
on his albums. Rockers are fond of him, alternative music fans
appreciate his experimental work, and via Jay-Z and P Diddy even hip hop
lovers are down with him.
Lenny Kravitz has just returned from a four year hiatus. During this
time hes been in South America, (Brazil to be precise) youve guessed it
writing.
While I was in Brazil I was able to experience new things, it was a
great feeling New experiences are probably needed for Lenny to evolve;
remember this is the man who has been writing, producing and playing
instruments for the best part of 18 years! As he goes on to confirm Im a
person whos always trying to experience new things. You have to remember
when I started out there were lots of other bands and artists around,
apart from the peppers (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) none of them are here,
or have maintained a career
What makes a good song, are lyrics that everyday people can relate to. A
song recorded for Lennys latest album highlights this. A Long And Sad
Goodbye That song was written about my father who passed away in 2005
Lenny adds, Indeed the track highlights many things which Joe public
could identify with. Numerous awards and platinum albums means that
Lenny Kravitz is nearing his own league when it comes to recognition for
his art form. His use of experiences to relate to people will no doubt
ensure he will continue to add to ever growing fan base.
