Victory for Eg White and Elbow at 2009 Ivors

Eg White was named songwriter of the year at the 54th Ivor Novello Awards, while Elbow picked up two gongs.

The Fiction act followed their Nationwide Mercury Prize win last year by picking up awards for best contemporary song for Grounds For Divorce and best song musically and lyrically for One Day Like This.

Both songs are written by Guy Garvey / Richard Jupp / Craig Potter / Mark Potter / Peter Turner and published by Salvation Music / Warner/Chappell Music. Massive Attacks Robert del Naja and Grant Marshall won the PRS award for outstanding contribution to British music, while Smokey Robinson won the special international award.

We are half way into London Songwriters Week 2009. Lots of events still to come, with today a particularly busy day. If you have secured one of the FREE places then please make sure you enjoy the events and we can only hope that there will be something to inspire you to take your own songwriting and musical creation to the next level. With so much on offer, London Songwriters Week delivers the broadest possible platform for singers, songwriters, musicians and artists in general to build on their success, by implementing the key advice offered by the plethora of world renowned music industry figures at all the different seminars and keynote events.

Winner announced on Monday 18th Mayat the Alex James interview.

The Launch of LSW took place at Kettners and we had a great turn out. The Ivor Novello nominated The Leisure Society and hot new singer songwriter Larkspurfall performed for the largely industry crowd including representatives from our partners at Musicians Union, UKTI and PPL. Ellis Rich the Chairman of PRS appeared followingthe PRS for Music AGM andChrisGreen from the London Songwriters Week Team gave a fantastic introductory speech.

Hope everybody enjoyed the cupcakes in the goodie packs!

With most events now confirmed and final details of all the partners, venues, performers and artistic collaborators taking shape, registration is now open.

You will only need to provide your name and email, and to choose at least 1 event to register for. There is also a list creative partners and key organisations involved in creating London Songwriters Week. You may also choose to show your support for these partners.
